Question:

I have an older Thule Atlantis 1200 Roof Rack Ski Cargo Box 685XT with claw-foot clamps. I have a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe with fixed side rails, no sunroof. Because of the fixed point installation, Im not sure that my cargo carrier will work but I cant find any definitive information. Can you help please? thx

Even older cargo box mounting hardware will be compatible with a range of roof rack crossbar types. The Thule Atlantis TH685XT uses the claw-type mount # TH05738, as you noted, and it will mount to most crossbars spaced apart 24- to 42-inches.

If your Santa Fe does not have side-to-side crossbars on the roof you will need to install some. I suggest the Thule WingBar Evo rack made of parts # TH711200, # TH710601 and # TH85KC. This rack installs on your vehicle with flush side rails at a 29-inch bar spacing, perfect for the Atlantis. I confirmed with my Thule technical contact.

I like to recommend an accessory step for cargo box users. The Telesteps folding aluminum step # TE97FR is inexpensive, lightweight, comes fully-assembled and it gives you almost a foot of extra reach for loading and unloading your cargo items. It folds up for easy storage and it is also handy in the garage when you're not travelling.
