For your 1996 Chevy C 3500 long bed pickup the confirmed gooseneck hitch fits are shown on the linked page. These include kits that DO work with the Crew cab configuration so long as the frame is not the 34-inch version, such as Curt # C61652-631 and the excellent B&W kit # BWGNRK1000. None of these require frame drilling but all of course require drilling a hole in the bed.
The B&W setup give you the advantage of being able to instantly convert to 5th wheel towing by dropping in their Companion hitch # BWRVK3500.
