I see conflicting info you said to one customer the Thule TH982XT has a 50 lb capacity, I see on another site it rated at 35 lbs which brand/model has the highest weight capacity?

The Thule adapter bar part # TH982XT that you referenced has a 35 lb capacity. At one time we were told that it's rated for 50 lbs but since then Thule has changed it's rating.
35 lbs is the highest rated adapter bar rating we have.
