Automatic Transmission Cooler and Fittings for a 2006 Ford F-150

Updated 05/30/2017 | Published 05/26/2017

Question:

I have been looking into upgrading my tranny cooler for a 2006 f 150, to a plate cooler. My confusion is what size fittings, in what application would a 10an fitting be necessary vs a 6an?

For transmission cooler fittings the 6 or 10AN you see listed on coolers such as # D52506 does not make a whole lot of difference because you would want to look at complete cooler kits rather than just a replacement core. The fittings included with the cooler are already a match for it and for the hose that comes with the kits.

I recommend cooler kit # D13504. It comes with a large plate-fin cooler, the means to mount it, some hose, and hose clamps. In order to install the cooler without having to cut and flare lines you can use fitting # D13024 for 1/2 inch transmission fitting inlets or # D13025 for 5/8. The best way to tell which size you have is to take one out of the radiator (if the factory cooler is built into the radiator) and measure it.
