Question:
Hi, I see two available for the car 2017 Chevy Volt. One by EcoHitch #306-x7338 and Curt Trailer #C11436. I am leaning toward Curt as I have this brand installed to a car I used to own. Which one do you recommend for the Volt?

For your 2017 Chevy Volt I really like the Curt trailer hitch # C11436 for 2 reasons. First, it costs less. And second, it is a great brand of hitches. When you carry bikes or use a cargo carrier, on the Curt hitch you would have to use stabilization strap # 18050 per Curt's warranty requirements. This hitch has a 1-1/4" receiver opening and a 100 lb tongue weight capacity and 1000 towing capacity.
I also really like the EcoHitch # 306-X7338. It has a 2" opening that allows you to choose from more racks and cargo carriers and it has a 300 lb tongue weight where the Curt is only rated at 100. This may not be that big of a deal when you consider that your Volt may not even carry that much weight and you have to go by the lowest rating. My research showed a 100 lb tongue weight on one article and a 200 lb tongue weight on another. You will need to check your owner's manual to see the true capacity. You will be able to choose from more bike racks with the EcoHitch, but again, the 2-inch bike receivers weigh more and can carry more bikes, but this takes up some of your available capacity and you are limited to only 2 bikes on a class I hitch regardless of what the rack will hold. Volts just were not made to carry much weight like a truck or an SUV. And finally, the Ecohitch costs almost three times as much as the Curt.
I have attached an install video of both hitches to help you make a decision.
