Can a Camco Vent Cover be Attached to a Roof Vent with a Plastic Frame
Updated 05/04/2017 | Published 05/03/2017 >
Question:
Hi folks, I see that the mounting brackets for most air vent covers mount to the side of the air vent frame. In my case, the air vent frame is all plastic and only about 1-1/2 inches high. Questions: 1. Are the plastic air vent frames typically strong enough to support the covers when mounted to the side of the air vent frame? 2. Do the new mounting bracket holes in the side of the air vent frame need to be sealed to prevent water infiltration and if so, with what?

Expert Reply:
Your roof vent may have a metal frame with a plastic shell around it so that is worth taking a look at. If it is all plastic then attaching cover # CAM40453 directly to the roof would be more secure. I do recommend sealing up the holes. You can use silicone sealant such as # 0160297.
