I have a 2016 chevy 2500 with class 5 hitch and want to pull with tailgate down. Im using the curt distribution hitch with 800lb tongue wt and 800lb towing capacity. How can I extend and not loose towing capacity? Is there a wdh that has a longer shaft?

There is really only one solution I recommend that will work for your desire to pull a trailer with the tailgate down. I recommend removing your Class V hitch and replacing it with the TorkLift SuperHitch # TLC1211. This would need to be used with a factory hitch and the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension for SuperHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers - 36" Long # TLE1536 to clear your tailgate. There are wiring extensions available as well like the 36 inch # TLW6036.
There are different SuperTruss lengths.
For the 32 inch # TLE1532 and # TLW6032
For 28 inch # TLE1528 and # TLW6028
For 24 inch # TLE1524 and # TLW6024
For 21 inch # TLE1521 and # TLW6021
This is the only system strong enough to keep your towing capacity and tongue weight at that extended length. The SuperTruss extension can only be used with the SuperHitch and your factory hitch
