For your 2016 Chevy Colorado, the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Time Delayed # 5504 will need to be hardwired.
If you have the tow package, the wires for this are already run under the dash, you will simply connect the wires. You can either cut off the quick connect, or you can use the Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controller 12" Long # 20127 to connect to the quick connect from the factory wiring.
If you don't have the factory tow package, you will need the Universal Brake Controller Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This will give you all the parts you need to turn a 4-way flat trailer connection into a 7-way connection installing a brake controller. I've attached a video to assist. If you don't already have a factory 4-way, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Connector # HM11141164. This connects to your factory wiring behing your tail lights and the powered module connects directly to battery to avoid overloading your electrical system.
