Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring HM11141164

Today we are going to be taking a look at part number HM11141164. This is the Hopkins plug in simple vehicle wiring harness with a four pull flat trailer connector. This product is going to fit certain years of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. Now the reason why they call it a plug in simple vehicle wiring harness is because you don't have to cut or splice any of your wires. All the connectors on the system, here on the harness are going to be OEM connectors. They are going to match up perfectly with the connectors on your vehicle. The wire functions are going to be printed directly on the taillight converter box.

It's going to come with a terminal grease packet and dust cap for the four way flat connector to protect it from corrosion. And its going to include zip ties, all the necessary wiring and connectors that you need for your installation. The units going to provide the four way flat connector at the back of the vehicle to power your trailer signal lights. Now when its fully installed the connectors going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the hitch. We do recommend using the mounting bracket if you don't already have a mounting bracket you can find those at our website. They are going to be sold separately.

The connector is compatible with five pull, six pull, and seven pull adapters. The adapters are sold separately. It's going to include the taillight converter, this is going to ensure that your vehicle wiring matches all of your trailers. Now this is going to connect directly to the battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicles electrical system. Again, plug in simple vehicle wiring harness.

Its going to connect quickly and easily. Now on the back of the product packaging slip is where your going to find the detailed instructions for the insulation process. But you'll need to begin by locating the connection points in the rear cargo area. You're going to have two sets of connectors. One with a green wire running to it, one with yellow and brown. The green wire side is going to go to the passenger side of the vehicle. The yellow and brown wire side is going to go to the driver side.

So you locate the connection points, plug in your connectors. Then you'll need to locate a suitable grounding location. Ground wire is going to be the white wire with the serrated ring terminal on it. That's going to allow it to get a nice solid ground connection. So you need to connect that to a nice clean metal surface using the included self tapping screw. And then you'll need to mount the taillight converter box. It's got tabs here on the side so you can run through your zip ties and get that secured to an out of the way location. Then your going to need to run hot lead to the vehicle battery. Hot lead is going to be this red wire here. It's already got the butt connector pre-attached to it. That's going to connect to the bundle of red wire and then the other end of the red wire is going to get connected to one end of the included fuse holder. It's already got the butt connector attached to that as well. Then the other end of the fuse holder is going to get connected to the positive post on the vehicle battery. It's going to come with a 15 amp fuse and its got the cap that goes over the fuse. Now again you want to be sure to apply the terminal grease packet or use that packet to apply grease to the connections on the vehicle on the four pull connector itself. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights we are looking at three amps per circuit. And for the taillights we are looking at six amps per circuit. Now once your installation is done it would be a good idea to go ahead and use any of the extra zip ties you have just to secure any wiring up and out of the way making sure it stays safe. That's going to do it for today's look at part number HM11141164.
