Recommended TracRac Ladder System On 2008 Toyota Tacoma For Two 10 Foot Kayaks

Updated 04/10/2017 | Published 04/08/2017

Question:

Since I have the shortbed 2008 Tacoma, I think I may nee the cantilever extensions. I think I understand you have an option that sells the two reg. uprights WITH the cantilever kit.. I was wondering if the upgrade kit can come with the side-mount tie-cleats and the sliding stops with knobs for crossbars- we plan to carry 2 10ft kayaks. Is there a tube wrap /padded sleeve to receive kayaks or surfboards trac-rac #TA27000-01-34 thanks

For your 2008 Toyota Tacoma, the system you are referring to and that I recommend is the T-Rac Pro2 Ladder Rack for 2005 to 2015 Toyota Tacoma - Over-the-Cab Extension - 1,000 lbs # TH37004XT-EX. This is a confirmed fit for your vehicle and has a max load capacity of 1000 lbs. It has a crossbar length of 65 inches, so you will have no problem carrying two 10 foot kayaks on this rack. This system comes with 4 heavy-duty load stops, but for further security you can use the Tie-Down Loops for TracRac Ladder Rack Crossbars # TAPI-11019.

There isn't a pad of sleeve confirmed to fit the Trac Rack crossbars that are quite a bit larger and wider than roof rack crossbars however, the Thule Surf Pad # TH845000 should work as they use a synching cord to secure to the crossbars.

You may want to consider using locking straps like the Thule Multipurpose Locking Straps # TH832 to keep your kayaks secure.
