Question:
When I tow the Prius on a dolly which has its own lights do I have to connect the Prius lights as well?

If you are towing your Prius on a tow dolly like # RM-2050-1 that has built-in taillights and turn signals you do not have to also wire the car's lights to operate. However, in the spirit of better-safe-than-sorry it becomes a pretty easy call to add a low-cost set of magnetic tow lights to the car to improve visibility for other motorists. Magnetic tow lights like # TL21RK are inexpensive, easy to install and will only increase your safety on the road. You will need to splice in an additional 4-pole connector like # HM48030.
Since local laws can change without notice I suggest you inquire of the highway patrol in the areas in which you intend to travel to find out if supplementary lights are required for a dolly-towed car under any circumstances. It is possible that some states or provinces could have such a requirement.
