The available trailer hitches that are confirmed to fit the 2017 Subaru Impreza are all Class I hitches with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. This is most likely because the Impreza is not designed to handle both the towing weight and tongue weight that a higher rated trailer hitch can provide. The tongue weight is the concern when using a hitch-mounted bike rack.
Depending on the manufacturer of your bike rack, you may be able to use a hitch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD, which will allow you to use a 2 inch hitch-mounted accessory with a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. Keep in mind that many bike rack manufacturers will void the rack's warranty if used with a hitch adapter. When using a hitch adapter, the tongue weight capacity of the hitch will also be reduced by 50%, so will most likely limit you to transporting two bikes.
The Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11465 is custom fit for your 2017 Subaru Impreza 5 Door and has a 200 pound tongue weight capacity. Curt does state that all non-trailer loads such as bike racks should be supported with stabilizing straps like # 18050. Failure to do so will void the accessory's warranty. I have attached the installation details for you to look at.
I have also included a link that will take you to our available selection of hitch-mounted bike racks that are compatible with a Class I trailer hitch.
