Question:

I have a 2015 F-150 towing a 16foot cargo trailer that weighs somewhere between 5-6k kbs. My question is how do i know what air bag system to buy 2000 lb or a 5000 lb? What are these numbers based off trailer gross weight or tong weight? Im a little confused what is the correct weight air bags to add to my F150

Expert Reply:

Properly-loaded trailers usually have a tongue weight (TW) that is about 12- to 15-percent of the trailer gross weight. So a 6K trailer should have a TW in the range of 800 to 900-lbs.

If you do NOT haul heavy cargo in the truck bed, just tow the 6K trailer, then you do not need the support of the higher-rated air bag system. If it is only trailer tongue weight that affects your truck's stance then a kit such as # AL59570 is the appropriate choice.

You can see the installation process in the linked instructions and video.
