Can the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch for Ford Explorer be Installed with an OEM 1-1/4 inch Hitch
Updated 01/18/2011 | Published 01/15/2011 >
Question:
Vehicle has a factory class II, which appears to be welded to the frame. How can I retrofit with your Class III? Do you have instructions that I could read in advance? Is this suitable project for a home mechanic who doesnt have a welder?

The Curt Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch, item # 13112, is designed to fit on your vehicle with the OEM Class II hitch installed. The # 13112 hitch is a bolt on installation that bolts around the existing hitch. You need to make sure not to use both hitches at the same time once you have the Class III hitch installed.
The # 13112 hitch can be easily completed by the home mechanic. An extra pair of hands will be helpful when installing the hitch for lifting it into position.
No welding or drilling is required for installation of this hitch. We have instructions online for you to review, see link.
