Question:

I have a 2002 Cherokee Jeep that I tow behind a motor home. I have blue ox base plate on the jeep. I need to replace the tow bar with the curt. I have blue ox base plate adapters BX8833. Will these fit on this Curt tow bar? I have a 24inch on center. Will this tow bar adapt to this base plate? I need to know why your specs show 26 to 41. Does this hitch not fold up for storage?

I went out to the warehouse to measure both the Blue Ox adapter # BX8833 and the arms on the Curt tow bar # C19745. I am happy to report that the adapter and tow bar will work together! The tow bar arms where the adapters would attach are 1.97 inches tall and they have a slightly larger than 1/2 inch diameter bolt hole. The adapter opening that fits over the tow bar arms are 2 inches tall and they have a 1/2 inch bolt diameter. They couldn't be more suited for each other.

The 26 to 41 inch measurement comes directly from the instructions for the tow bar linked for reference. The measurement is on center. So if from the center of one base plate tab to the center of the other is 24 inches I cannot recommend this tow bar. The spacing would be too narrow to safely use the tow bar.

It doesn't fold up because it doesn't have any way to secure in the folded up position. There would be nothing to prevent the tow bar from falling down from the stowed position.

For a similar tow bar that does work with a 24 inch spacing and that works with the BX8833 adapters you can use Tow Ready tow bar # 63180. However there is nothing to secure it if folded up and this tow bar is rated for a maximum of 45 miles per hour.
