How does Lippert Underchassis Storage Unit # LC125460 keep water out of the bins?

The removable storage bins included in the Lippert Underchassis Double Bin Storage Unit # LC125460 have lids to protect the contents, but these bins are not rated as waterproof. Their lids have finger holes to make it easy to remove them.
Since this unit installs under an RV chassis between the front and rear tires, it tends to benefit from some natural shielding. Just the same, these storage bins are intended for use with non-delicate items such as sewage hoses, wheel chocks and similar items.
