Question:
I have a 2017 Audi Q7 with the factory towing package with the 7 pin connector. My trailer is a Vanguard Tube Boat Trailer with LED lights using a 5 pin flat connector Surge brakes with reversing solenoid. Will I run into the lamp out issue or has this been resolved with the newer vehicles? What adapter would work for converting the 7 pin Audi to the 5 pin flat trailer plug? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
I cannot speak for Audi in terms of any progress they've made with the compatibility of their OEM wiring with LED-equipped trailers, but we do offer the Tow Ready adapter # C35FR you referenced. This will carry your lighting and reverse lockout signals in the 5-pole format. If this does not work for you the other option is to wire in load resistors in front of each LED light on the trailer.
Load resistors like # DI34ZR can mimic the electrical characteristics of standard power-hungry incandescent lights and allow vehicle wiring to operate properly with LED trailer lights.
