Question:
Your site says to use this part for the 2011 Kia Sorrento V6 except sx. Thats just wrong. I have confirmed with Curt that they were not aware the vehicle connectors changed for 2011. They recommend I use a regular wiring kit, and splice in. Are you aware of any other manufacturers who have developed a wiring harness which just plug into the 2011 Sorento? Thanks.

For the 2011 Kia Sorento SX models the LED tail lights is one major reason why the 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit, part # C59496, is needed. The problem is that LED lights use much less power than incandescent bulbs. Because less power is required, lower rated wiring and other components can be used on the vehicle. When a trailer is connected, it requires extra power draw and the wiring in the SX model is not sufficient to handle the requirements of the trailer. As a result, if a non-powered harness is used, it can damage the sensitive wiring and other electrical components in the vehicle.
The use of the C59496 eliminates the possibility of that happening by using a direct connection to the battery. The trailer lights will get the power they require from the battery rather than through the tail lights. I have included a link to the installation details below.
If you have the 2011 Kia Sorento V6 that is NOT the SX model and has the factory tow package wiring installed you will need the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # C56332. This plug-in connector will not use a separate power wire to the vehicles battery. This will connect to existing connectors located along the frame on the passengers side near the rear tire. I am including a link to the installation instructions which will show pictures of the connectors you will need to use.
If you have the 2011 Kia Sorento 4 cylinder or V6 without a factory tow package you can use the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118506. This harness will plug into the back of the taillights and have a separate power wire to the vehicles battery.
We have sold quite a few of these wiring harnesses for the 2011 Kia Sorento vehicles and have not encountered any problems.
