Question:
Any suggestions for racks accommodating two electric bicycles weighing 58 lbs each? Less with the Bosch battery packs removedcloser to 52 lbs. Neither bike features a straight-across top bar, and the ladys bike is a deep step-through frame. I am assuming I would be adding a 2inch receiver hitch to my Cmax hybrid car. Thanks.

We have two hitches available for your C-Max. We have the Curt Class II hitch # C12092 that has the 1-1/4" opening and the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch # 306-X7200 that has the 2" opening.
There are several bike racks that can accept two 58 pound bikes and are also compatible with the available trailer hitches for your vehicle. The Kuat NV # NV12G is one option. It has a capacity of 60 pounds per bike and is a wheel mount so you step-through will not be a problem. With this rack, you would need to use the Curt Hitch # C12092 since it only fits the 1-1/4" receiver opening. With the Curt Hitch you also must use the # 18050 support strap, since the hitch requires it. It is a bit of a hassle but is an extra safety support to maintain the warranty of the hitch. I have linked a video showing how the strap works.
Another option is the Saris Freedom # SA4412B and the SuperClamp EX2, # SA4025F. Both of these racks are rated for 60 pounds per bike as well. They can be used with either the Curt or the EcoHitch hitches. I have linked videos of all of the bike racks for you.
I would suggest the EcoHitch for your set-up for two reasons. First, you would not have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using the hitch and second, the 2" opening gives you a wider range of choices for bike racks and cargo carriers in the future.
