Class S Tire Chains Under 10mm Tall for a 2016 Ford Explorer XLT

Question:

Hi, what thickness are the chains. My owners manual said to use Type S under 10mm, for a 2016 Ford Explorer XLT. Thanks

On some vehicles like your 2016 Ford Explorer the tire chain size does matter. Like you said, Class S chains are needed when there is limited clearance. Even though cables # PW2029C are Class S rated the cross chains are a little over 12mm in diameter.

A better option is to use Titan chains # TC2319 which have a chain link thickness of 3.7mm.
