What Fifth Wheel Installation Kit Will Fit A 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab Using A Reese 16K Hitch
Question:
I have a Reese 16K fifth wheel hitch that came from my 2001 GMC 2500 HD. In reviewing the QAs, and watching videos, I believe the C16420-104 installation brackets are the correct. It says these brackets are compatabile with the reese hitch, but would like to confirm. Also, could I use my reese bed rails, or do I need the 104 bed rails as well? 2011 Dodge 3500 megacab 5th wheel installation

Currently, the available 5th wheel installation kit for a 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab is the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # C16420-104. This kit does include rails. I recommend using the Curt rails since they are designed to work with the brackets included in the kit. This installation kit is compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley, and Husky fifth wheel hitches.
I have included a link to the installation instructions for this kit below.
If your 2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab is a 6 foot bed, I would recommend to use a slider hitch like the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Square Tube Slider, part # RP30051, or the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with Round Tube Slider, part # RP30075. The slider hitch will give you an additional 10 to 12 inches of travel towards the vehicles tailgate, which will allow the extra clearance that is needed to keep the front of the fifth wheel trailer from contacting the cab of the vehicle on sharp turns.
I also recommend the Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck 90 Degree Wiring Harness, part # 50-97-410. This will give you an additional 7-way in the bed of your truck and still retain the use of the factory 7-way at the rear of your vehicle.
