Using CargoBuckles In Cargo Area Of Jeep To Secure Stacked Gear Cases

Question:

Can I attach a very short strap with a double j-hook to the base of the ratchet #IMF18812? I am trying to figure out a way to attach two stacked Pelican 1650 cases see photo to the floor of my Jeep using one ratchet on each side. I do not want to run the straps over the lid of the top case because i want to be able to open the lid without releasing the straps. Also, I do not want to permanently mount the ratchets to the floor. Instead, I would like to secure the cases by ratcheting the side handles of the top case to the attchment mounts on the cargo floor. The straps would simply run through the handles of the bottom case. The downward pressure of ratcheting the top case to the floor should be sufficient to keep the lower case in place. As you see, I do not need anyhwere near 7foot of overall length, but I do not see an easy solution. I estimate I will only need about 15inch of overall strap length. Please let me know if you think my idea would work or if you have any other solutions. Please note that these Pelican cases are heavy. They might weigh up to 100 lbs each by the time they are loaded with gear. I need them to remain safely and securly mounted to the floor even when driving off road. Thanks in advance for your help!

Based on what you described, I recommend the CargoBuckle Mini G3 Retractable Ratchet Straps - Bolt On - 1" x 6' - 466 lbs - Qty 2, # IMF103745. There are a couple options you have for mounting or not mounting these CargoBuckles. You may want the Mounting Brackets for CargoBuckle G3 Retractable, Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps - 2,500 lbs - Qty 2, # IMF16777. Without knowing the attachment mounts on the cargo floor of your jeep and the dimensions of your Pelican cases, I can only guess what might work best, but I think these are good options for you.
