Question:
What is the thickest lowest wire gauge that the PK11893 will accept?
asked by: Don B
Expert Reply:
The 7-Way trailer connector # PK11893 does not take any wire directly. It is what is called a US car connector. There is a mating harness that plugs into the back of it that will either already be on the vehicle or you would use # PK11998 which uses a mix of 10 to 14 gauge wire.
Going with larger gauge wire (10 is usually the largest you will see for trailer wiring harnesses and connectors) can lead to a level of resistance that will cause some functions not to work properly. Unless you really need the heavy gauge because the trailer requires it I would stick with the standard 10 to 14 gauge depending on function but that is up to you.
