How To Mount The C.E.Smith 40 Lighted Post Guides On A 2x6 inch Trailer Frame

Updated 11/28/2016 | Published 11/25/2016

Question:

The U-bolts that came with the kit are too short, so I purchased the Large Frame U-bolt Kit # 11416, which has proven to be too short for my boat trailer frame as well. My trailer frame is actually 2x6. What are my options?

I reached out to my contact at CE Smith and this is not the first time they have had this issue with 2 inches by 6 inch trailer frames. You will have to go with a more customized fit since the CE Smith Extra-Long U-Bolt Kit for Boat Trailer Guide-Ons - Pre-Galvanized Steel - 6" Tall, # CE11416, were too short. Their engineer recommends getting bolts that are 7/16 inch by 6-1/2 inches or more and using CE Smith Frame Straps - 2-9/16" Hole to Hole Length - Galvanized - Qty 2, # CE20016GA.

Unfortunately they don't have the bolts you need, so you will have to visit your local hardware store. This will give you the ability to attach your CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights for Boat Trailers - 40" Tall - 1 Pair, # CE27740, by making a custom mount similar to a u-bolt function. This will allow you to use all the washers and nuts of the hardware that came with your post guide kit.
