Question:

Does it work for this 2005 Avant model, it was not listed so I assume your site was referencing the sedan. Next ? the bikes are 2017 Electra Townie Go! that weight 58#s 53#s with battery removed so I assume that I should get a single bike model since 2 would overload the design capacity? since the Electra Townie Go! model is the step thru womens style will the clamps that hold the top bar work?

The Thule OutWay Platform Bike Rack # TH65Jv is confirmed to fit your 2005 Audi Avant. However, it only has a maximum weight capacity of 33 pounds per bike. So I can't recommend using it to carry your two Electra Townie Go! bikes weighing over 50 pounds each. Also, like you said, the top clamps will likely not reach the tubes of the bikes.

Instead I recommend adding a roof rack using the Malone # MPG202. Then you can use two of the RockyMounts BrassKnuckles Roof Mounted Bike Rack # RKY1201.

Another option is to add a trailer hitch on your Avant. The Curt Class I # 11164 is the hitch confirmed to fit your car. This will require some drilling and possible trimming of the fascia. Also, Curt requires the use a stabilization strap # 18050 when carrying bike racks on their hitches.

Once you have a hitch you can use a bike rack like the Kuat NV 2 # NV12G which is rated up to 60 pounds per bike so it is able to handle both of your Electra Townie Go! bikes.
