Question:
I noticed that this does not have a converter box, is that because it does not require one?

Expert Reply:
The Curt T-Connector vehicle wiring harness # C56109 does not require a powered converter because it is designed for vehicles that have incandescent lights. Traditional incandescent bulbs draw much more power than modern LED lights, so they can handle the additional load from trailer lights.
Vehicles with LED lights draw less power than those with incandescent lights. Factory installed LED wiring is not designed to handle the larger loads that will occur after hooking up your trailer lights. You'll need a wiring harness with a powered converter # C56330, if your 2016 Dodge Journey has LED lights. Powered converters are designed to decrease the strain on your vehicles wiring.
There is a simple way to determine if you have incandescent or LED lights. After turning on incandescent bulbs you will notice that they grow brighter gradually. LED lights turn on immediately with no transition in brightness.
