Recommended Bike Security and Carrying Safety on Thule Trunk Mounted Bike Rack

Published 09/29/2016

Question:

Im looking to purchase the Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier that will be mounted on the trunk of my 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon. This carrier does not come with a bike lock. Will the Master Lock Quantum Self-Coiling Combination Cable Lock be sufficient and work well with the Thule bike rack? Im new to biking and appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Thank you, Christy

For your 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon with Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier, I would recommend for the security of your bikes that you use a cable lock like you asked. The Master Lock Quantum Self-Coiling Combination Cable Lock, # 8122D, would be a good choice. I'd also suggest securing your rack to your hatch with Thule's Passive Security Strap for Trunk Mounted Bike Carriers, # TH533. This secures your rack to your vehicle when your hatch is closed and locked.

If you will be carrying Women's, Children's, or Alternative style frames that do not have a straight top frame rail, you should consider using a bike frame adapter bar like Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter # 64005. This will allow the bikes to securely fasten to your bike rack and ride level. It quickly and easily attaches beneath the handlebars and under the seat to create a secure top rail.

I've attached a couple videos for you.
