Question:

I have read reviews and descriptions, as well as watching the videos. I dont see how this is listed as a braking winch. Im looking for a winch to raise AND lower under positive braking. Not a heavy load, up to 500lbs

You would want a Worm Gear Winch like the part # DL10954 that can be used as a hoist. Worm gear winches are really the only type of hand winch that is designed to work well with hoisting items off of the ground and suspending them.

This winch has a 1,500 lb capacity so it would make easy work of your 500 lb load.

For cable the part # DL24104 is 50 feet long and has more than enough capacity.
