How Does Cable Attach to Dutton Lainson Split Reel Winch
Published 06/22/2022 >
Question:
Hi guys, I was curious about the attachment method for two 1/4inch cables coming off of the double drum in the same direction. Is there a cable hold down clamp I can purchase to achieve this? Also I am using this winch to pick up a 500# item with two cables. Crank one way piece comes in and crank the opposite way the piece goes out. Both cables pulling in the same direction. Just confirming that is the recommended use for this winch. Also, for extra security, I would like to have some kind of a backup system to prevent any kind of runaway on the load. One thought was to drill a hole in fixed bracket and drum and put a pin through it? Any thoughts on how to achieve this? Thanks for your help,

The Dutton Lainson Split Reel winch part # DL10976 was designed to use one cable through both sides of the drum. There wouldn't be a way to use two different cables with it. I have attached a photo showing how a cable is fed through this drum. This does allow "two" cables to be pulled in at same time for lifting things like you mentioned wanting to do. Due to the nature of this winch style there is no risk of a runaway load since it's not possible for this winch to free-wheel since a screw is what turns the drum teeth.
