I see that you purchased Curt 4-pole wiring harness # 55323 back in 2012. Since this is a passive harness that plugs in at your Dakota's tail lights the most-likely cause for your lighting issue is damaged or corroded connector contacts within the plugs.
You can try a spray-on electrical contact cleaner such as Caig De-Oxit which can help remove corrosive build-up or if you prefer to can simply replace the harness. Sometimes even slight greenish or whitish discoloration of the contact surfaces can cause signal transmission problems.
You can also check the main ground wire on your trailer to ensure it is affixed to a clean bare metal spot on the frame. Sometimes a bulb-out sensor will cause other lights to flash rapidly when one goes bad.
