Question:

I noticed under your FAQ about changing over to disc from drum. I believe I would like to do this on my trailer. An EZ Loader 20-25ft trailer with 3500lb axles. It has a 4X4 brake flange on the axle with drum brakes. Tires are 205/15s. Surge brake actuated. BUT, your Galphorite coated backing plate assemblies interested me also. The boat is used in mostly brackish water with occassional true salt exposure. I worry about the disc brakes warping and corrosion. How about comparision between the disc and Galphorite on longevity from warping and especially corrosion. The drum flush units are toatally inadequate, unless a small sprayer head could be added to the water line ed in the hub. Thanks for any help, new to your site, but I like it

The item you selected, Titan Disc Brake Kit and Leverlock Actuator w/ Electric Lockout, part # T4747200, is zinc coated to prevent corrosion. To prevent warping, I would recommend allowing the brakes to cool after driving a long distance before backing your boat into the water.

I would recommend The Titan Disc Brake Kit, part # T4747200, for a boat trailer rather than the Galphorite Coated Assemblies. With any brake assembly, heat can remain around the bearings and can be sucked in through the seals and into the hub.

The Titan Disc Brake Kit and Leverlock Actuator w/ Electric Lockout, part # T4747200, will work great if your trailer has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern and the correct bearings.

To make sure that your bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2 inches, you can measure two different ways. The first way is to count the lug nuts, then if there is an even number of lug nuts measure the distance from the center of one bolt hole to another. If there is an odd number of lug nuts, measure from the center of one lug nut directly across to the point directly in center of two lug nut on other side of wheel (see FAQ).

Next, you will need to take apart a hub on your trailer and check the numbers on your bearings. The inner bearing number that part # T4747200 will work with is L68149, the outer bearing number should be L44649.
