Question:

2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7 auto While off-roading in the Alps last week I was surprised to discover the transmission temperature warning light coming on during the long slow climbs up to 2,700m. The Land-Rover Defender, Mercedes G-Wagen nor the Toyota Land-Cruiser that were with me didnt have this problem. It has been recommended to me that I fit a significantly improved transmission fluid cooler. Which of your products is the best for this application. Regards

Since aftermarket transmission coolers are not vehicle-specific, you can install as large a secondary cooler as you have space to mount one. The ideal installation point is in front of the A/C condenser where the cooler will receive maximum air flow, and hence be able to deliver maximum cooling efficiency.

For the 3.7L V6-equipped 2003 Jeep Liberty you can use Derale transmission cooler # D13503 or one of the other units shown on the linked page. I linked an installation video for this cooler in a similar Jeep vehicle. The two linked articles will also be of value to you.

You will install the cooler on the transmission return line; this is the line that returns fluid back to the transmission after it has been routed through the primary cooler inside the radiator. To identify it, start the cold engine and shift it into gear for 15 seconds the shut off the engine. The return line will be the cooler of the two external transmission lines.

If you prefer a fan-powered cooler that can be mounted elsewhere in the engine compartment and that will cool your transmission fluid even at low speeds, then you might consider a unit like # D13900 or one of the similar fan-powered coolers shown on the other link.
