How to Tighten the Americana Valve Stem
Published 07/06/2016 >
Question:
How tight should these stems be installed. Do I totally compress the rubber grommet? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
To tighten the stem you will need to tighten it down until the rubber grommet flattens out to where it is flush with the washer provided with the valve stem. This will create a good seal without over-tightening the rubber grommet.
Once it is installed and you are using your trailer, make sure you monitor the tire pressure closely to make sure there are no leaks. Leaks rarely occur when you tighten the grommet down in the way I described, but make sure you monitor the stems anyway.
I added a photo showing where the rubber seal should expand to and the area where the seal needs to fit the valve hole in your wheel which you may find helpful.
