Question:
what and rise,on a ball mount for a 2004 jeep liberty
asked by: dallas
Expert Reply:
The recommended ballmounts for the 2004 Jeep Liberty with have a rise of 3/4 of an inch, and a drop of 2 inches. This would put your hitch ball at the most common trailer size, but to confirm it would work for your application I do recommend measuring.
To find the required rise or drop for your particular trailer, you would first measure from the ground to the top of your hitch opening. If a hitch is not yet installed, you can also get close by measuring from the ground to a point just below the center of your bumper. Then, you would measure from the ground to the flat bottom of your trailer coupler, with the trailer sitting level. The difference between these two measurements would be the rise or drop you need to match up the vehicle and trailer.
To clear your vehicle bumper, an extra long length is also required on the ball mount, so # 80226 ball mount would not be compatible. A good choice for your application would be ball mount # BM20, if the rise or drop will work for your needs.
If you do find that you need a different rise or drop, let me know and I would be glad to make a suggestion for you.
