Recommended Brake Controller and Wiring for a 2002 Toyota Sequoia without Factory Tow Package

Published 06/09/2016

Question:

Hi, I have a simple question for you. I have a 2002 Toyota sequoia without a factory tow setup and a 24foot Terry RV. I would like to know what would be a good proportional brake controll for my needs. We really only camp about 3 times a year. Would I also need a special adapter or would the brake controllet just plug into my factory wiring harness? Thanks

Great news! I can help you setup your 2002 Toyota Sequoia with a brake controller so you can tow your Terry RV.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because of its easy user interface. The P3 is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is like the P3's little brother, it has all the great qualities but doesn't have the display of the P3.

For your Sequoia you will need to install a 4-way # C55246 if you don't already have one and then the # ETBC7 to adapt your 4-way into a 7-way for the brake controller. The good news is that since the Sequoia has the plug at the back of the vehicle, so your installation work is cut in half. I have linked an installation video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a similar vehicle for you to check out.

I have linked all the above recommended parts to this page for your convenience.
