Getting Holes To Line Up When Installing Trailer Hitch On 2017 Chevrolet Volt
Updated 06/06/2016 | Published 06/04/2016 >
Question:
I was able to get it all in place. Took me more like 2.5 hours, but I was being very deliberate when removing panels and did accidentally remove a 2nd piece of the under guard. Anyway, my question is: When placing the hitch over the bolts and reinstalling the bumper and exhaust bracket on the passenger side, it was extremely tight and took quite a bit of wrench power to get everything in line. Might want to mention that in the instructions. Do you feel the extreme tightness could be an issue going forward? Im guessing itll be ok, but wanted to know if you experienced s similar situation and how you felt about it after.

When a trailer hitch is installed on a vehicle and you find that the holes are sometimes not perfectly lined up and the hitch needs to be adjusted to get everything to fit. Our installers will use a small tool that they insert in the mounting hole on the hitch and in the mating hole of the vehicle frame and move the hitch so that bolts can be inserted. Some are tougher than others.
This is a common practice and should cause you no issues with the performance of the trailer hitch as long as you installed all the needed hardware and torqued everything to specs.
