Hitch with Greater than 3500 lb Capacity for 2001 Chevy S-10
Published 08/31/2010 >
Question:
My 01 Chevy S-10 with 4.3L V6 and 3.42 axle ratio has a tow limit of 5800 lbs in the owners manual. The hitches I find here say tow limit 3500. Are there any hitches rated up to 5000 lbs for my truck.

None of the hitches we offer for your S-10 have a towing capacity greater than 3500 lbs. When used with a weight distribution system, the Draw-Tite Class III receiver you were looking at, part # 75085 has a towing capacity of 6000 lbs and a 750 lb tongue weight capacity.
A weight distribution system uses spring bars to transmit a portion of the trailer tongue weight from the rear tow vehicle axle to the front axle, which uses the whole vehicle to support the load and helps to decrease the sag experienced when a heavier trailer is hitched.
If you could provide the tongue weight of your trailer as you typically have it loaded, I would be happy to recommend a weight distribution system for you.
