Question:
I am planning on pulling a M614 military trailer to haul camping gear. Is the lowest rating Curt 2 inch hook type 20000lbs? Seems like a little overkill. What do you recommend?

Expert Reply:
Military equipment, including trailers, does tend to be built to a pretty high capacity. The 20K Curt 2-Inch Pintle Hook # C48004 is a good example. Pintle hitches are often found in industrial, agricultural and of course military applications so they tend to have pretty substantial capacities.
The lighter side of overkill is safety margin, a good thing always, but if 20K seems a bit much for your camping application then you might prefer Tow Ready 10K pintle # TR63043 or Curt # C48005.
