Question:
good evening, I bought a Toyota Tacoma 2012, it does not have the tow package. I have a after market 4 way already installed, but I do have the fuse spots and the brake control plug under the dash next to the emergency brake. now do hooking up a 7way and brake controller is there a plug in and play or do I need to completely re wire the wire up to the battery and into the controller. similar to what you do in your video of hokking up a brake controller in a 2009 Tacoma?

To install a 7-Way and brake controller on your 2012 Toyota Tacoma that did not come with a factory 7-Way the parts will need to be hardwired in. There isn't a plug and play 7-Way option for your Tacoma.
Since you already have the 4-Way installed you will just need # ETBC7 and the brake controller. I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it's easy to set up and use and it is reliable.
Installation will be very similar to the video on the 2009 Tacoma which I have linked for you. I have also linked a help article that explains the ETBC7 installation.
