How Much Crossbar should Be Through Foot of Roof Rack to Safely Install Thule Hullavator
Published 04/14/2016 >
Question:
i have a 2014 Suburu Forester with factory roof rails . I have a square Thule cross bar and the # TH450R towers to support it. I also have a Hullavator. My question is how far out from the outside edge of the tower should the bar end be to get the clearance I need when i pull my kayak down? My kayaks are 17-18 feet long. i plan on putting the Hiullavtors on the Right/passenger side of the car. thank you

Thule recommend you have at least 4 to 8 inches of bar on the outside of the feet of the rack for the Hullavator part # TH898 to clear the side of the vehicle. Ideally when folded down you want at least 4 inches between the rack and the door of your vehicle.
I would try installing it with the rack as far to the outside of the feet of the rack as possible to ensure it will clear and then if you have room move it closer to the center of the vehicle if you so desire.
