Supplemental Braking System Recommendation for a 2006 Jeep Wrangler being Flat Towed
Updated 04/08/2016 | Published 04/06/2016 >
Question:
I recently installed a Brake Buddy Vantage Select in my 2006 Jeep Wrangler. I pulled it with my 2015 GMC Yukon Denali. The first day was beautiful. The second day I experienced a little bit of sway. Im not sure if the sway was a result of the cross wind or tire imbalance/steering misalignment. Either way, one of the things I didnt like about the Brake Buddy Vantage Select is that it only activated under heavy breaking non-emergency and it did not offer the ability to activate it without breaking the pull vehicle like you would using the brake controller on an electric brake outfitted trailer. I noticed that you offer other options such as permanent installation supplemental braking systems and wonder if you recommend one of those over the Brake Buddy Vantage Select that I have. I am planning to pull my Jeep from Texas to Colorado this summer and will be in the mountains i.e. looking for utmost confidence in my setup. I appreciate your feedback. Regards,

The easiest system to set up and use is the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking.
You can adjust this to be as sensitive as you need for the braking of your towed vehicle. Ideally you want the brakes of the towed vehicle to apply so that it feels like you aren't towing anything behind you and that your vehicle is braking like it would unloaded. This also has a manual override lever on it to allow you to apply braking whenever needed. This can be helpful when you experience sway on the highway from wind or a semi-truck.
