Large Roof Cargo Bag and Roof Rack Recommendation for 2011 Kia Sorento

Updated 03/05/2016 | Published 03/04/2016

Question:

Love your site. I have a 2011 Kia Sorento. Need a LARGE roof cargo bag to transport all of our kids stuff on vacation. The Kia came equipped with roof rails that run front to back. No sunroof. Question: What maximum size bag can fit this car? Any product recommendations? Do I need to purchase crossbars? Need your expertise. Thanks

The Rightline Sport 3X Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100S30 is one of the largest bags we offer, at 18 cubic feet. The bag measures 48 inches long by 40 inches wide by 19 inches tall, and would fit your Sorento very well. The # 988501 you mentioned is a bit larger, but it's meant for use on a hitch mounted cargo carrier at the rear of the vehicle. The bag is 2 feet tall, and would be exposed to a considerable amount of wind resistance that could eventually cause the mounting straps to fail. I'd go with a bag that sits lower to the roof, like the Rightline bag I recommended.

Although crossbars would provide extra stability, they're not absolutely necessary IF your side rails are raised up off the roof enough so you can get the attachment straps for the cargo bag around them.

If your raised rails that don't sit up far enough to get the roof bag mounting straps around it, you'll need crossbars. Inno offers a reasonably priced crossbar system that consists of the following parts:

50 inch long crossbars, part # INB127
Roof rack feet, part # INFR

If you'd prefer something a bit more aerodynamic and therefore more quiet, Inno also offers a Aero crossbar system, which would consist of:

Front and rear Aero Crossbar, part # INXB130-138
Roof Rack Feet, part # INXS150

Keep in mind that although the bag is considered waterproof, a heavy downpour can still occasionally find its way in. We recommend wrapping anything that can't get wet in plastic.
