As long as you clean the surface of the oil pan the Kat's Heaters Oil Pan Heating Pad # KH24150 is basically going to stick as long as you want it to. It won't wear out and fall off as the adhesive is very strong.
The element of the Kat's Heaters Oil Pan Heating Pad get surprisingly hot. Kat's says it will get between 300 and 400 degrees if not attached to something that will allow the heat to dissipate into.
Now how hot will it keep your oil? That depends a lot on the outside temperature, how long the heater is installed and how much oil your vehicle holds. Most likely it will keep it hot enough that after just a few minutes of running your vehicle will be up to operating temperature.
You should also note that you should never start or run your engine with the heater installed. Kat's actually recommends waiting a couple minutes to start the engine after unplugging the heater.
