The CIPA Deluxe Door Mount Mirror, # 11650 that you have referenced, is a universal fit item designed to fit as many vehicles as possible. Regarding the Door Mount Mirror you have referenced, the top hook goes inside the door frame between the window and the door. The bottom hooks to the bottom of the door and is padded and adjustable.
I have included links to a video review for you. Our install team has determined that this mirror does fit your 2001 Nissan Xterra.
Another option is to use mirror set # KS3891-2 that attach to the stock side mirrors on your Xterra. I have linked a video of these mirrors as well.
