Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2006 BMW X3 that Can Not Use a Trunk Mount Bike Rack

Will the model for 2006 BMW X5 - Yakima Y02634 Bike Rack - Folding Arms - Trunk Mount also fit a 2006 BMW X3? I do not have a trailer hitch.

I do have a solution for you but first I did some checking and Yakima trunk mounted racks are not recommended for your 2006 BMW X3 because the vehicle is unable to support the weight at the point where the carrier must be placed. The other manufacturers also exclude the 2006 X3.
I recommend installing a trailer hitch and using a hitch mounted bike rack. For a trailer hitch I recommend # 13573. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch receiver. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. The model in the video is a 2005 but it is the same generation as your 2006.
For a bike rack I recommend the Curt # C18085, because it holds the bikes at the wheels making it compatible with many bike styles and it is easy to handle and lessens the stress on the hitch and vehicle. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.
For a platform bike rack I recommend taking a look at the Swagman XC, # S64650. This carrier holds the bikes at the frame and wheels and has the versatility associated with platform style racks. I have linked a video review of it as well.
