Troubleshooting Journey Brake Controller Flashing LED, Trailer Brakes Not Working
Updated 11/04/2015 | Published 11/03/2015 >
Question:
A Journey Husky brake controller red light began blinking when brakes applied at the end of a trip in the rain. Trailer brakes do not activate but all trailer lights work. After a day of rest / dry out while parked, checked again and still red light blinking when brakes applied - lights work. Tried different connector terminal on truck hitch vs. bed and same result. Trailer has not yet moved after rain trip so hubs etc. still in same positioning and could still be wet - its still raining outside. Is it just a wet connection problem at the wheel ? Thoughts ?

Based on my research, when the LED light is flashing on the Journey, it indicates there is a short in the system. Since you found the same issue at both trailer connectors on your truck, it sounds like the issue is on the trailer.
You will want to check your trailer electric brake wiring for any cut, pinched, or damaged wires that could be causing the short. I do not think a wet connection is the problem. If you find any damaged wires, you will want to replace the wire that is damaged.
You may also want to test the brake magnets on your trailer to ensure they are functioning properly. You will want to use a multimeter, like # PT89ZR, to check amperage. I have attached a help article on testing trailer brake magnets for you.
