Question:
my truck: 1997 Chevy K1500 Z71 4x4 with a stock size 265/75/16 spare tire in the stock location. Can you give me a recommendation for a trailer hitch that will allow my stock spare tire to hang and mount without being interfered by the trailer hitch? I want the spare to raise and without running into the trailer hitch. I am partial to Curt hitches, but let me know what you would recommend. Thank you!

According to my Curt representative, he had the # C13082 installed on his 1998 K 1500 with a 8 foot bed, and it did NOT interfere with the spare tire at all, and he used a slightly larger tire size than the 265/75-16. This is contrary to install instructions, which state that the spare might need to be repositioned slightly forward and it might not be the case on a short bed truck. The other Curt choice would be the # C15325 which I'm told would clear a stock spare tire. This hitch is a Class V whose towing and tongue weight capacities are much higher than you'd need for your K1500.
Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite tells me that all their hitches would require you to manipulate the spare tire slightly toward the front of the vehicle as the tire is raised or lowered. B & W tells me the same thing.
So, the decision you'd need to make- do you want a hitch that will get you what you want, but would be pretty expensive and would have a capacity much higher than that of a vehicle? Or, do you want a hitch that the personal experience of my Curt representative tells me will allow you do drop the spare tire without hitting the hitch? Or, can you settle for a hitch that would require you to shove the spare tire an inch or two forward while it's lowering or rising in the rare instance when you have a flat tire ?
So long story short, we offer the one hitch, part # C15325 that would for sure allow you to drop and raise the spare tire the way you want.
