Aftermarket Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Escape to Bypass Factory Wiring
Published 10/23/2015 >
Question:
I had a factory hitch and wiring harness installed on a 2014 escape at ford.I bought a new trailer.Picked up the trailer the brake lights didnt work.took it back to ford ,they installed a new wiring harness, plugged in the trailer the running lights didnt work, took it back with the trailer, they put a new harness on , all checks out at the plug good , hooks up the trailer ,puts on the signal, no running lights, Hand to book a appointment with the expert at ford electrical.$120 later he said the trailer has bad grounds, need to see the trailer guy. i did however hook up to my neighbours trailer and trailer works fine, they hooked it up to one of theres and it worked fine.so i took it to the trailer guys and they checked the trailer all over and everything is working perfect.now before i left i checked i had brake lights , and left single but right would flash and also the left markers. So i told the trailer people to call the dealership and talk to the electrical guy. I am in the middle ford says good on there side and the trailer guys say good on there side.i still need new modual and installation.i feel we need to put in a aftermarket harness

If you wanted to bypass the Ford trailer wiring on your 2014 Ford Escape you could pretty easily do that with the Tow Ready wiring harness part # 118566 as it has been confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. I attached an install video.
What you described is pretty bizarre. When the lighting is behaving strange you can test the voltage of the 4-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to see if the vehicle or the trailer is at fault.
I attached a video that demonstrates how to do this.
