Does Curt Trailer Wiring Harness 55563 Fit a 2011 Lexus RX 350
Published 10/15/2015 >
Question:
FYI - I find that removing the 2 small access panels as described in instructions does not provide access to the tail light connectors. The connectors are attached to the vehicle about 6 in below the access panel and beyond reach. The entire rear panels must be partially removed to gain access. When access is gained drivers side I find a 2 pin and a 4 pin connector side by side. This 4 pin connector matches the t-connector . My concern is that the cars 4 pin connector uses only 3 of the 4 pins. The connector on the C55563 harness has 4 wires/pins. Is this harness correct for my car? Just a little suspicious when something which appears to serve no purpose is supplied. That is unless it is usable on other models?? Also if the C55563 were to blow a fuse will the car lights still function? Many thanks

Curt trailer wiring harness # C55563 is indeed listed as a fit for your 2011 Lexus RX 350 though it is an older harness. A vehicle side 4-Way has a ground pin, running light pin, left turn signal/brake light pin, and right turn signal/brake light pin.
The converter box takes the separate circuits from the vehicle and combines them for use on the trailer. So basically on the vehicle for input there are white wires for ground, brown for running lights, yellow for left turn signal, green for right turn signal, and red for brake lights. The harness is only going to take what it needs and all of these basic light functions carried through the vehicles mating connectors so there would not be an issue.
The harness fits several years of the Lexus RX 350 (2004 to 2012) but not any other vehicle.
Should there be a short on the trailer the wiring harness will protect the vehicle wiring and it will not knock out the vehicle lights.
