Compressed Fender Clearance for Trailer Between Tire and Fender

Question:

I have seen this same question asked in different forms but it was never asked with this info. Im running 4 of these 7000 lbs sprins spring under axle and when fully loaded with a 6000lb Jeep the current fenders have 5-1/4inch of clearance ... when one of the rear tires is driven onto a curb to simulate full compression with the 6,000 load in it .. there is still 4-1/2inch of clearance. I need to lower the fender and looking at new ones .. and need to know how much clearance up and above the compressed suspension height do I need ? Is it safe to run 1in OVER compressed height? thanks

Generally speaking you will want to have 3 inches from the top of your tire to the fender of your trailer when the suspension is fully compressed to accommodate for suspension travel. Having a little more wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't recommend any less than 3 inches.

If the suspension was fully compressed and you have 1 inch of clearance from the tire and fender you would be good to go.
